‘Margharita’ is the Fuchsia of the Week 01/2015,

and, good suited to the current winter weather, at last the corollas are snow-white.

It was introduced by V.W. Miller at the RHS in 1970; beside that there are no informations about the lineage etc…

 

In my opinion this hybrid with its large, double blossoms is by all means one of the most beautiful  white Fuchsias,  while the sepals show a subtle light-pink with light-green tips, thus making this hybrid quite unique. A nice contrast is given from the large, deep-green leafs to that.

“Margharita” may be referred to as growing upright; but the multitude of heavy blossoms drag down the remarkably long stems and therefore it grows as a fine hanging-basket as well, best kept in half shade. Given such a place it will flourish- with enough fertilizer- until cut back in fall. Overwintering in the greenhouse will cause no problem.

Fortunately this Fuchsia is readily available in specialized nurserys as Gärtnerei Friedl, Gärtnerei Guttmann, Gärtnerei Michiels or Gärtnerei Unflath. It may be hoped that this will last, for this beauty should not, ever, been forgotten in the future!
